Thank you for visiting my blog!
It has been almost 10 full weeks that I have been at The Potter's House and what a whirlwind it's been! After much anticipation and planning, I have completed my required 2 full weeks of teaching which occurred March 29 - April 2 and April 12 - 15 and then April 19. Here are a few of the exciting things the class and I completed during this time:
1. In Social Studies - We finished a unit on Manifest Destiny and created timelines out of yarn and small pieces of paper. The students were then required to do some investigation using their notes and textbook to fill in the papers. They had to find the year in which each acquisition of territory occurred, find one important fact, and then put all of the papers in order and onto the yarn to complete the timeline. We then used these timelines to play Jeopardy! I had the honor of being Alex Trebek and I think the students had a lot of fun.
2. In Literature Circles - After many weeks of reading, writing and discussing, we are concluding our unit study on
There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom by Louis Sachar. We are working on our Showcase pieces to show what we've learned from the book. The students are using video cameras to either film a scene from the book or take a part that they thought was important and find a creative way to put it on camera. Our final day of filming will be tomorrow and we will have a screening on Monday during class.
3. In Math - We have been practicing how to find Perimeter and Area and also how to convert fractions into percents and decimals. It's been a difficult unit, but we made in through with at least an introduction to these topics. Due to Stanford testing and Calvin Buddies, the Math unit has been put on hold. Hopefully the students will remember where we left off when we start again next week!
I will be posting some pictures of the projects in the next few days. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me by e-mail at krosedevos@gmail.com.
